like the question asks. what do they sound like. btw, i think i did worse but i wan't to diagnose as many problems that i may have before i go buying new stuff

 

The motor will have a bit of a miss to it and if you stand by the exhaust, you will hear a kind of ticking noise come out of it.

 

I was taught to hold a dollar bill over the exhaust (hold the short side and let it rest over the pipe, do not hold both sides). If it sucks it into the pipe, you have a problem, if it just flaps in the wind, you are in good shape (oh yeah, and don't let it go, if you have a valve problem, you just lost a dollar........... or more depending on what you used).

will a burnt valve throw any codes? What about oil consumption or anitfreeze?

 

i wouldnt think that it would throw any codes, and depending on what valve it would be seems like that would justify oil consumption. if an intake valve was burnt, it wouldnt seal on the exhaust and if the exhaust was burnt, it would suck in exhaust gases on the intake stroke so i dont think it would burn oil then.... maybe you wouldnt burn oil if your valve guides are still in alright shape

 

It will really only show up as a rough idle and a very bad leakdown test.

Don't think you can burn an intake valve (at least I've never heard of one).

 

If your burning antifreeze youve got alot bigger problems than valves
do have whiteish bubbles in the oil or does oil end up in the coolant reservior?

 

I have heard that as well. It does work.

 

A compression test, leak down test (as mentioned before), or a vacuum gauge will reveal any valve sealing problems.
