Default VVT, ls2 dampener or leaf style tensioner...

Wish i had thought about this before, but with vvt is the leaf style tensioner critical to keeping proper tension on the chain? I used the LS2 dampener when i built by L92 but now with the p0336 code am kind of womdering if i should go back to the gen iv style tensioner. Seem to remember there being a good bit of slack in the chain. Wondeing if maybe it isnt too mich to let the actuator properly do its job. I am going to go back in and replace the actuator(should have yesterday, but got sidetracked...)should i plan to install a tensioner while i am there?

So you kept VVT actuator but used the LS2 dampner? Hope I read that right

Yes, and have been rethinking that decision, and not sure if i am just over thinking it, or if it is critical to the vvt operation to keep or go back to the newer style tensioner.

Are you using the stock tensioner or the ls2 style dampener?

Ok so, did some research and found this..... http://www.enginebuildermag.com/wp-c...0000054947.pdf so apparently according to the article anything with a single bolt cam needs to use the blade style tensioner, due to the variance in the cm gear teeth being deeper and therefore making the chain have more slack than the 3 bolt cam gears. Which could explain alot, between the random inexplicable misfires, the fact the engine is just rather noisy, the hard starts/long cranks when slightly warmed up and i am sure it is contributing to the p0336 code i am getting, i will be going back to the leaf style tensioner when i replace the actuator...

Is the cam sensor fully seated in the front cover?

Yes, it is. I think when i installed the limiter i may have screwed up the actuator, causing the p0336. If i clear the code and run the test through the scan tool for the actuator, i may get 12* when i command 25* and thats only once or twice then it wont move... i have a new actuator and solenoid magnet, just need to get my hands on a tensioner now...

I work for GM, I can check on what a new tensioner would cost me if you want?
