Exclamation Vortec 5.7L Engine swap, Need suggestions.

I am buying a stock 5.7L long block with the heads this weekend for $400.00 from a friend. I plan to swap out my 5.7L in my truck currently with 195,000+ miles with this motor. I don't want to put in a stock replacement, I need something with a little more power. I would like to get about 450hp to the rear wheels or more if possible. Someday down the road I plan to install a Procharger on it to help this new motor breathe once I recover from the cost of this motor build. Any tips, suggestions, or ideas would greatly be appreciated. Cams, internals, tuning, etc...

383 stroker.

You'll gain a ton of torque.

If you want to make power. More then stock you HAVE to get arid of the intake with the 19lb/hr poppets. You just cannot make power with that setup. Look at the other 5.7l thread here it will show you the light.

I like the sound of a 383, but would I still be restricted by the fuel system? Is their any other fuel system that I could run with this motor. I saw the ram jet intake with the LS-1 throttle body but I don't know how hard that would be to set up.

do wut i did. i dont have 450 hp but its good and build up from there. get the l31 put fastburn heads, any aftermarket intake manifold, bore it, all forged internals, performance drivetrain, cold air intake, crane cams programmer, cam. u wont have 450hp but u'll be close. ofcourse borin it out wont give u anything but the l31's are easy to build up. mines an a built l31 and i dont have some of the things i listed but it runs strong and they're not that expensive. ofcourse for the money to power ratio, id go with a 383, or a zz4 crate engine. i got the engine built for like $2700 and put abt another 1000 into it. i was stupid for not doin the 383 swap, cuz i kno sumone that would have put that in my truck for abt $2500. if i didnt touch some of what ur askin then rply back and ill see if i can answer but thats wut i'd go with.e
