vortec 5.7 cam?
#1
ok I've learned that the best way to give my truck a little kick is a cam. but now i have NO idea what kind of cam to use ..... and i dont know anything about what size lift and duration or any of that. i need help. i would also want a good tune. my buddys always get their ls1's done at MTI but i think thats a little to good for me. help?

The best bang for your buck would either be a LT4 cam. A LT4 Hot Cam if you are planning on having it tuned. You can go with an aftermarket cam but they will cost more. Check ebay for a good deal on the above cams.

The LT4 cam specs are 203/210 duration at 50 .476/.480 lift with 1.6:1 rockers and 115 Lobe centerline.
The LT4 hotcam specs are 218/228 duration at 50 .525/.525 with 1.6:1 rockers.
With teh stock 1.5:1 rockers the Stock Lt4 Corvettte cam will stay under the 0,475" Vortec head lift limit.
I am seriously considering this cam for my truck. the LT4 and Lt1 intakes have 4" runners, our trucks have an 8" intake runner, my friend used the Hotcam in a TPI with 21" runners.
teh Stock Lt4 engine had a fuel shutoff of 6400 rpm. With either cam swap, I would look into a PCM tune to maximize power, but it will run without a tune.
I was also considering the 1992 Corvett LT1 cam has teh most aggressive cam out of the LT1 engines.
The stock Vortec cam is 192/197 and .414/.429 on a 111.
