FINALLY, FINALLY about to get my cam/heads installed (I've been 'sitting on' this stuff for over a year) and I have a question. The gentleman who is doing the work for me strongly urged me to replace the timing chain while we're at it...so I'm gonna. Is the affordable Cloyes chain around $25-30 or so? Anybody know if the part # for a 4.8 is 94194?

Been out of work for 15 months so I'm looking for a good piece at affordable price.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about the Cloyes part#, but I did a little searching for "LS2 Timing Chain", and came up with GM part# 12586482. Might want to search deeper and double check that, but I believe the LS2 chain is a direct swap in the $25-$30 range. You could check with SDPC (Scoggin-Dickey, sponsor), or even GMPartsDirect.com.

Thanks, Bud; I'll do that. I read the thread that Grippy linked for us and thought the LS2 chain would be a good buy. So there would be no fitment issues with my 4.8?

From what I've read here it should be a direct swap...I plan to get one myself when I eventually build my 6.0.

Stock LS2 chain isnt a double roller. New Era Performance sells the DR set for the LS2 and its $130.00. Its a JP Performance kit.
