LSX blocks kick ***, no two ways about it. Way better than the alternatives IMO (warhawk anyone). I love my short deck block in the vette. I thought about trying to do a tall deck at the time (it was going to be a boost block before I bought the vette) but back then the other parts were even more expensive and the tall deck was ultra rare.

Somebody is going to do some amazing **** with one of these and a couple of snails.

i think the piston height will make them very willing candidates for massive amounts of boost.

Absolutely...

But say, can't you do a 4.250" piston in there or does the extra rod length make that a no go?

the rod length will change the CH quite a bit. so far there are 6.340, 6.440 and i believe 6.540. so those will change what happens. the good thing about the magnums (or at least the billets) are that they are supposed to be center counterweighted. so you can still run a good skirt on them. the max size on the tall deck is reported at 4.200 and not 4.250, but we are comfortable with 4.185 due to how the space between the bores is sometimes compromised and runs thin on anything larger than that.

so if the goal was to benefit from the improved rod angle/decreased cylinder wall load/increased ring land height....what is the longest standard stroke crank currently available? 4.1"?

new years bump. I was actually talking to a few of the piston manuf about the whole theory behind this, and came up with a fairly affordable way to do a tall deck short block that would run almost the same price as the short deck. of course it would not have a radical stroke more like 4.250 max (to make a 468) in a compstar or dragonslayer. Long rod (6.340, 6.440, 6.540) and a shelf piston in either dish flat top or dome. Then intake spacers port matched to ANY intake including the new 102 LSXr manifolds for any of the heads OR the carb style manifolds as well.

Well of course diff strokes for diff price ranges, but using a piston designed for the rods and stroke (which just takes crunching a few numbers)

We have 1 package that will make a 454 tall deck out of a stock piston using the longest rod (6.560) with a CH of 1.063 will be $200 more than our normal LSX454 packages due to the extra cost of the block and a little bit more machining. Of course this is just using a bunch of numbers stuck into an equation. Using the shorter rod will allow alot of different piston combinations as well.

Cost (not including spacers since i dont have a concrete price yet) would be 6395 using callies rods and crank (compstar). That would be crated with cradle, front LS2 timing cover, ls2 valley cover, JP Perf timing chain, Joe Gibbs Driven break in oil....ready to go. Pistons would be your choice for the most part onthe company as long as we can keep them in the same price range.

Not too bad. Ill be updating witha price on the spacers here in a little bit.
