I cant ever find LS1s cheap. A 6.0 long block should be around 800-1000 tops, I doubt your going to find an LS1 for 500 or less. People always want a lot for 5.7s because of the aluminum block.

get a 6.0. With a smaller ish cam and a 4L80 Im putting 325 to the wheels RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. Im also getting between 22-17 MPG on the trip to Cali.. Which is about 4.5-6 hrs for me. Also depends if Im running the AC or not. I got about 18 coming home running AC the entire way. My city is something like 15-12 depending on AC and how I drive, I usually drive like an *** so my MPG is about 12 constant haha.

the advantages of the ls1 over a 6L is more compression, ls6 intake, and 100lbs less weight.

If you get an 2000 or earlier ls1 you dont get the ls6 intake though. And the lq9 has 10to1 compression and the lq4 has 9.25 compression.

I would rather have a 2001or new ls1 over a lq4. Lq9 is a toss up. comes down to the price you can find one at.

Let me tell because I had a cammed 6.0L in my truck then broke a valve spring and a valve then did a 5.7 swap with same cam and TF215 heads. Trust me, the 6.0L cam only had better power and torque from seat of the pants test.

I regret putting 5.7 even with heads in place of cam only 6.0L.

sounds like the 4" bore of the 6.0L makes all the difference. 18 extra cubes helps some, but isn't a deal breaker.

do the 6.0 never look back. If you can find an LS2 or even a 6.2 do it!
