Default Starting to get tired of this Cam/Converter combo

So right now I'm running a 231/239 cam and a Yank 3200 248mm converter. I have to admit, it's pretty nice jumping into a stock truck and going from stop light to stop light. I love my set up but it would be so much better if I wasn't trying to daily drive it. I wish I wasn't in school so I could buy a daily driver and have my truck for a weekend warrior.

Lately I have been thinking about taking the cam and converter out and putting something very VERY tame in it. Something around stock for maximum drivability. I'm looking for a perfect idle and stock feel but I don't know how low to go. My truck has a 408 with an LS3 top end so I was looking at stock cams that come with rectangle port heads. LS3, LS7, LS9, LY6, L76, LSA.

What do you guys think of these cams? I didn't realize the LS7 and LS9 cam were almost identical. Would that be a good fit for me?

Also I don't know what to to about a converter. I think I would liked the stall speed to be somewhere around 2600 but I don't know what a larger diameter will feel like.

Mid teens intake, very low 20s exhaust and a larger diameter converter like the tb converters circle d sells would be good.

When I was doing this build last summer, the ******** on the LS1 forum tried telling me my cam would drive like stock with the bigger cubes. But I guess you live and learn. You guys don't like the idea of an LS9 cam?

This is interesting ... im on the stock cam and converter, and a cam/verter swap is next on my list. Can you please elaborate on how your truck drives and why you are tired of it?

Don't take this thread the wrong way. If my truck was only driven on occasion, I would put an even bigger cam in it and haul ***. I just don't like the occational surging and drivability issues that come with a larger cam. And driving it every single day gets on my nerves sometimes.

Also I don't really like how high my stall speed is. I think I would like it much better if it was around 2600-2800.

Realizing that the LS7 and LS9 cam are pretty much the same, makes me want to try the LS9 cam. Knowing that it was designed by GM for a high compression motor with rectangle port heads seems perfect for what I'm looking for.

I would change cams before swapping the stall out.
A smaller stock cam will improve lowend and the truck will move with less effort.

I run a ls6 cam in my 5.3 with a yank tt3000 fun combo that dailys great
I understand your complaint which is the reason i run a ls6 cam went from 212/218 to a tr220 now a ls6 and love it...no more issues drives stock

Ls7 cam and a stock 2500 truck converter if you want it to drive like stock. That converter will flash 2500-2600 in your ride, the ls7 cam is built in a na engine so its setup to perform in a na engine. Thats what I would do if it was my daily driver.

Yea I think I will swap cams when I get home. It'll give me an excuse to get my hands dirty.

I just don't know what to do about the converter. I still want to run a performance converter, just because I do like the hot rod feel of it. But I want to get something that is in-between the two extremes. Something between stock and the 248mm i'm running now.

Where should I look? 4L80e with something around 2600-2800 stall..
