Default rebuilt definition

Anyone cruise the parts fs section and see things like rebuilt LS1 FS,there idea of a rebuild is new bearnings used pistons and rings, cleaned and assembled with new head bolts.whoppty friggn do,

That would not be even considered an overhaul in my opinion.

Q:anyone else notice this bullshit?

Anytime the rotating assembly is disassembled from stock, its rebuilt. New bearings = rebuilt.

To me it's anytime it's been down to bare block and all necessary parts replaced. No point in doing machine work if you don't have to.

rebuilt and overhaul is usually one in the same IMO. Now a built engine is aftermarket internals.

Im an old dude the old days a rebuilt engine was a tanked block new freeze plugs cam bearings fresh bore new pistons/rings brearings crank grind valve job valve seals timming set gaskets would be basic rebuild

Overhaul ment it could be done in car hone it re ring it rods/main bearings chain/gears set valve grind.

If I understand you correctly you could drop the pan replace the mains and rods button it up and sell it as a rebuilt engine by your definition country boy.

I have on my shop floor a 6.0 shortblock that was a low mile warrenty pull out, complaint was cold piston slap.I torn it down was clean as a whistle took slugs to local shop, asked if he could knurl them,he dug around in a cabinet pulled out the tool blew the dust off it and did them, he says its been years, the skirts are so small on these modern engines not much room to knurl, then again hence the short skirt you get the slap.So its honed and new bearings waiting to go into something some day,if i was to sell it I wouldnt call it rebuilt
