The 224R has XER lobes, which is more aggressive then the TR220 which is on a XE lobe.. Ultimately the 224r should make more power

I think I spoke with you on the phone earlier and gave you that .006" info For a bit more info and eye candy, here's an old post we made after engine dyno testing their cam vs ours

This comparison shows the following camshafts on the same engine same mods

Thunder 224/224 114 Camshaft
TSP 224R 114 Camshaft
TSP 224R 112 Camshaft
Baseline Stock LS1 Camshaft

From testing we did with these camshafts at different advance points we were able to maximize average power across the board for guys looking for nice hp gains across the board.

I know for a fact that thunder racing uses their own lobe profile.. They did not use comp's xe lobes. Thunder racing also claims that with the tr224 cam you shouldn't run 1.8 rockers because of its very aggressive ramp rate. My guess is it's got very aggressive ramp lobes... Not no xe lobes...

Yea, I was under the impression that Thunder used their own proprietary lobes...their cams have definitely proven themselves...

Hmm maybe I had a brain fart.. But I am almost sure that XER lobes are more aggressive then thunders... I have been wrong before, sure I be wrong again...

The guy over at Thunder called me back last night and told me that their 224 lobes were very close in aggressiveness to the Comp xe-r lobes. But he couldn't tell me exactly what they were since they are their own design. Anyway, he talked me into their 227 extreme cam... The lobes are quite a bit more aggressive! So aggressive that the minimum lift they could grind with that duration was .649! I know the lift ain't gunna do me any good when its that high but the duration and ramp rate will. He told me the low end on this cam should be similar to the tr224 but top end should be quite a bit stronger.

Higher lift camshafts for a given duration always idle smoother. Here's my .612 lift 224/228 cam idling before I even got serious about tuning it.
