Question for heads, my set up
Would I benefit from running these heads http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=649&catid=40 on my current set up, vs my mildly ported, milled 317's, using stock gaskets. For anybody that has time where would that put my comp ratio at using them heads. I don't know the full deal on the head game yet but am trying to learn... Thanks anybody who throws a helping thought in. I am aware that more money is better for alot of mods, but ???
lq4 stock
stock intake for now, hope to switch to ls6 or fast.
224 581 on a 112.
bolt ons.
Thanks alot all

man i pinch pennys, i can not afford 1000.00 a head.
your 317 heads has a 71 cc chamber.
now the LS6 head has the same size valves, the same size ports,
but it comes with a 64 cc chamber.
now for just 1000.00 i can get a good used set of 243's off of ebay.
break out my dremil and put a good polish on the ports,
and have the machine shop rebuild them, and come out with a couple 100
in my pocket.

I'm with you man...that's COSTLY...
on a stock LQ4 243s milled .025 with stock head gaskets will give you a 10:5 compression.
If you were to swap to Flat Tops and leave them Unmilled, and run stock gaskets, you'd have an 11:1x compression.
That's what Richard told me at WCCH, I've got them emails, and the Pms if you'd like to see those instead. Richard is the ****, just PM him with your thoughts and he'll try his best to work up the best combo for you.
Good Luck

also. with your set up, even if you went to the PRC heads, dont wast money on a fast intake, unless you are really going for all out numbers. the truck intake sticks with the ls6 intake on flow all the way up to 5500 RPM, and makes better real world low end numbers. if i were you, id either go for the PRC heads, or mill your 317's a little more to get some compression back up, and do converter (if you havent already) and some rear end gears.
