Question about milling??

Default Question about milling??

A friend told me i should milled my heads .60 there 706's and going on a 5.3.... Is that safe?? i know he has built some pretty fast trucks and knows his **** but that sounds like alot to mean...

Im jst looking for second opinions...

you could milled them .100 , but safely with out any fitment issues i believe
.050 after that you might run into IM not clearing the heads or your psb not alining to the heads! also if you plan on ever running an after market IM you might want to think it twice all those after marke intake manifolds are designed mostly for stock applications! just my 2cents!

You'd probably be better off with .030" milled and a .030" head gasket. Compression may even be higher. Do the math...

Alright thanks ima look in to it more and the head haskets i bought are the metal ones not sure what difference that makes

Stock GM head gaskets? I believe they are .051".

This is what I'm doing with a set of 243 heads, it comes out to losing .49 so it'd be roughly the equivalent of a .05 mill.

Oh ok so i need to figure out how thick my gaskets are and go from there... Thanks for the help

Yeah, what do people do about bolting up the alternator/PS bracket with milled heads?

No problems with a .030 and .040 gasket. Even with milling them .050 I doubt you will have a problem.
