Default Push rod length

I'm building 2000 ls1 and tring to determine if my 7.4 push rods will be the righ length to use with ls7 lifter and this with 317 heads. What determine 0 lash? When meashing i was geting differnt answers, so i don't think i'm setting my 0 lash right. Any help would be good.
Thanks.

first question is do you have an adjustable valvetrain or stock style bolt down rockers? with stock setup just make sure the lifter is on the base circle of the cam. set your checker in place, then bolt your rocker on. then adjust the checker til it hits the rocker arm. will know its right cause when turnin it, will feel a little resistance. that will be 0 lash, just add your necessary preload to find your pushrod length

The rockers or torque to spec right? How much preload would y'all suggest?
Would lash be checked @ TDC?
