Default Priming oil pump?

I just installed a ported oil pump on my 03 5.3l. I was wondering if there was a special way to prime it or what I needed to do if anything.

Yeah i kinda figured thats what most were doing, but I also saw some companies make a tank to pressurize and connects where the oil pressure sensor goes to circulate 3-4qt first. Just didnt know if it was really needed.

disconnect the fuel line going to the engine, and crank it for 15-20 sec, it will build enough oil psi,

GM sell oil priming thingey which is a tank attach to the port near the cam sensor and you pump oil inside the engine.

mostly used on new engine tho

Technically the engine starts unprimed every time you start it... That oil is just going to drain out of the pickup back into the pan. Long as the pump isn't completely dry, it should be fine just starting up.

Priming oil systems is for new/replaced rotating assy situations! If you start a new engine without pressuring oil in the motor or at least unplugging coil packs and turning over with no load for a while it will loose 80% of its bearing life!
But in your situation your good!

With a new engine build assembly lube is used for a reason. The op only changed a oil pump, the system is not completely dry.

Yeah just swapped the cam timing chain and oil pump. I did use assembly lube.

Thanks for the help.
