Ever heard the old saying more is better? That is the way I see oil pressure. I have a sbc that only makes around 300 to 330hp and it idles at 45 to 50lbs and pegs the guage out during cruising speed. The motor that I am wanting to port the pump on will be a iron block ls1 with truck head and a 226 patriot cam. I don't see what it will hurt.

I am going to just touch up my pump a little. Right where the oil enters the pump. C the little ledge in their. I would just smooth that out. I believe thats all their is to it. Just less disrupted oil flow. Be careful not to hog out too much and make the pump wall week.

Yeah I didn't know my old man had a book that explained how to do it.

I posted some information on this topic a couple of times on LS1tech.com. I have tried to post a link to those posts, but search doesn't work so I can't find them. Here's a quick before and after picture of some of what you are trying to do.

You are trying to reduce the resistance to flow on the inlet and outlet sides of the pump which will increase the flow rate. I didn't change the spring tension on the pressure regulator at all. I just disassembled, inspected, ported, cleaned and reassembled everything. I hope that this helps.
