Ok, so it seems that I may be better off building a 370 and then selling my 5.3. I found these pistons and rods on ebay and just wondering if they're the right ones. They seem like a good deal.

Hands down get a 6.0l long block and do the swap. We had our half ton engine swap done in 8 hours on a saturday. The Edelbrock mid length headers didn't care and neither did the 5.3l PCM. The 6.0l engine has boat loads of low end and mid range torque and IMO is the best bang for buck upgrade anyone can do for a truck or SUV.

6.0 from a 5.3 is a big seat of the pant difference. I say get a LQx forge the rods and pistons and spray the **** out of that beeotch. If/When it blows, bore it out to a 408ci and spray the **** out of that.

Here's an update on my plans and I need to know if this will be ok.
planning on rebuilding 6.0 engine with with forged pistons and rods, stock crank and maybe reusing my 224/224 cam. Planning on milling the 317 heads .030 and installing 918's with 10-10.5 CR. I will be spraying a 150 shot for sure and maybe more so I will also install a 255 walbro intank. Is the stock timing set-up ok or should I upgrade, if so with what? Right now my 5.3 has great top end but not low end and I want the new motor to have a really good take off but still pull hard to 6200 or so rpms. Will the 224 cam give me this or should I go bigger? I want to run 13's on motor and 12's on nitrous.

I'd like to know what pictons/rods you find. In the few searched I did, I couldn't find pistons that would mate up to a 6.1" connecting rod, only 6.125 or 6, and I'm not into it deep enough to know how much of a difference that makes considering the stock rods or 6.098.

If by stock timing setup you mean timing chain, I'd do an upgrade. I didn't on my build (built the 408 at 10k miles), and wish I had just for piece of mind.
If you mean coils packs, etc., there is nothing to be gained from upgrading the stock units.

Well I dropped off the engine at the machine shop today. They are going to take it apart and tell me if it needs a bore and if the crank is good. They are also working me up a price on forged rods and pistons. Only thing that is for sure is that my 317 heads are getting a 3 angle valve job and getting milled. Also, I just ordered a 228 230 cam with .572 lift. I'm Keeping the stock truck intake for a while too. If everything goes well the 6.0 will be alive and running next month.

I picked up some extra cash and went the forged 402 route instead of stock cubed 6.0. My set up will be as follows: forged crank, pistons, rods with 228 230 cam, and 317 heads milled to 64cc. This should give me around 10 to 1 compression. I am keeping the truck intake and will be running all motor until I upgrade my fuel pump. Then I will put in a 125-200 shot and see what it runs. I am still waiting for the crank and gaskets to arrive but if everything goes well I'll have it in by next month.
