The new engine's aluminum cylinder heads' exhaust ports face inboard, toward the valley of the cylinder block. This allows the single variable-geometry turbocharger, exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) cooler, and close-coupled oxidation catalyst to reside within the valley. The layout negates the need for separate exhaust manifolds while reducing overall width.
How crazy does this sound!!!!

Make that 4!! I've always wanted the fuel econ and torquey power of a diesel but not at the high cost of a HD with the 6.6L...but a 4.5L turbo diesel in a 1/2 ton that's rated at 310/520? F*ck yeah I want that!!

Caught me by surprise too...I read it twice trying to figure out if what he was saying was relevant to the design of it somehow.

I can't wait for a cut-away of it to understand it better, it's sounds like a great design. Some of the design cue's they tackles such as

Shows me they weren't screwing around and just pulling parts off the shelf trying to assemble something out of pre-existing parts.
My one concern is how hot that area of the engine is gonna get...OMG
Better have some good heat shields under the hood or else your gonna be melting stuff! I'm excited to learn more about it! Sounds innovative!
