Default need a little advice here

whats up everyone had a few little things that i was hoping some of ya could help me out with. ive got an 01 silverado with what i think is a 4.8(motors out of a 02+ and havnt gotten the borescope to see what pistons its got) anyways the trucks got full bolt ons, custom tuned by justin at BBP a fully built 4l60e with a TCT 10" 3200 stall sitting on 35s with 4.88s front and rear. within the next two weeks ill be going to the track to get a baseline before the cam and other go fast goodies, and this is where i need help lol. ive never ordered a custom ground cam before, have only purchased/installed off the shelf grinds. my main concern is having to swap out a cam later on again, the reason this worries me is in about a year or so id really like to throw a nice set of prc stg 2.5 heads on the truck and idk if that cam will then be too mild. can i tell them to go ahead and grind me one for the heads that im going with? or would that end up being a complete tuning nightmare? if anyone can point me in the right direction itd be much appreciated!

thanks

Since you already have a built trans, 10" 3200rpm converter, and 4.88's and you think it is a 4.8L, I would personally recommend a TR or TSP 220/220 off the shelf cam or a custom grind EPS 222/224. I would not go bigger than the 222/224. Anything you do later on like heads, TBSS intake and so on will make it run that much better.

thank you for the help and reply sir and those were the cams i was looking at if i went with an off the shelf grind i was stuck between the tr220 or the comp lsr 219/227. the only reason i was going to do a full custom grind was because my buddy gave me a hell of a deal on one through his shop for the same price i can get a CG for and thought why not have a custom cam made for the mod's rather just buy a cam that just "works" for everyone ya know? as for the TBSS intake mani, thats actully whats next, its sitting in my garage waiting for the corvette fuel filter and fast 3-4bolt tb adapter. as for the tbss have you put that on your truck? if so hows it feel?

Since your motor is out of an 02. If your pistons are flat tops, you have a 4.8, if they're dished, you have a 5.3. This wasn't always the case, as there was a 5.3 HO that was aluminum block and flat top pistons, but all of the iron blocks are this way.

I know Graymatter03 saw a loss with his TBSS intake on his truck, but I think that may have been caused by the smaller cam he was running.

the casting number my block is its 02-04, but just like ya said 4.8 flat tops and 5.3s are dished, guess ill be figuring that out soon too. and idk how much of a difference there is but ive been tuned for a 4.8 the past year and a half ive had a tune on her, wonder if id pick up more ponies if the tune was for the wrong motor lol...but afr's at WOT are 12.8 so it seems about right, ill just have to see though lol. as for him seeing a loss in power, im actully kinda shocked, specially since the tbss is the same design intake as the nnbs silverados have, theyre power i think is 10-15 more horse than the nbs is rated at. as for that tsp228 ive considered it, specially since this thing wont be a daily for much longer.

either way wether im 4.8 or 5.3 im definitley gonna try that intake out (hopefully before cam) and just see where/if that swap gains since a buddy of mine owes me dyno time. ive googled and some guys w/o cam have seen gains on bolt on 4.8s, its not much but it all adds up im just curious how much, and im sure itd help out other members wether or not the intake swap is worth it
