I'd like to see the Amsoil/RP compare also. I run RP in my truck and my wifes Malibu, and have been very pleased with it.

It's cleaner now than when you started.

Has anyone done a comparo between Mobil 1 Full synth and RP or Amsoil? Oreilly had it on sale recently when I needed to change the RP so I went ahead and gave it a shot for the price. I can't recall exactly how much I paid, but I'd like to say 35 bux for 6qts and Mobil 1 filter.

Well it's getting close to oil analysis time, I just ordered some OA kits from "The Oil Analysis Company", (youroil.net). I figure that I'll change the oil on both cars some time this month or next month, next month being a full year. My wife's car has about 12-13k on it so far, and it's only eaten a quart of oil...I'm pretty happy with that My mom's car has far less mileage, and the oil was dead on last time I checked it, (a few month's ago...I'm a bad son ) I'll be sure to post up my results. I don't know if I'm going to pull the valve covers though as I've lost my working space and have to move my tools and basically a small shop's worth of equipment, out of where I keep them and work, and will be doing the oil changes on the DL in one of the parking lots in the apartment complex where I live...(where I'll also be doing my trans and eventually engine, so I don't want to get pinched before that time lol). My gear will be getting jammed into a small garage that I'm renting in my apartment complex (I used to have a garage with a storage space over it, basically two levels worth of gear and junk), anyway, we'll see. I'll be sure to update as soon as I get the OA done

OK, here are the long awaited results...I've had them for a while, just didn't have the software to convert a PDF to a JPG, and got busy and forgot about it lol. Anyway, first the Matrix, which ran Amsoil 5w-30 and an Amsoil filter for a year, and 18,457 miles. (changed oil to Amsoil 7/26/08, 92,136 miles and changed it again on 8-3-09, at 110,593 miles)

Basically from what I can see the oil held up well, it just had an excessive amount of dirt in it, which makes sense considering the extended oil interval. The viscosity of the oil got thicker as it got older as well, which I've heard of Amsoil doing from other oil analysis's that I've seen. As well as it did, I will not observe the 12 month interval the next time around. It's been 6 months and 9000 miles since the last oil change, and I plan to change it again tomorrow, using Amsoil 5w-30 and a Mobil1 filter...I would have used an Amsoil filter again, but want to get the oil change done right away and couldn't wait to order one. Amsoil also issued a bulletin that their Toyota oil filters should be replaced at the manufacturer's interval instead of their usual 12 month interval for their OA fiters like this. Here's the analysis print out:

TeriMatrix.jpg?t=1267311256

Here's the Toyota Solara, which had similar analysis results as the Matrix, minus the thickened viscosity. This oil was in the car for over 14 months, and 12,927 miles (6/21/08 58,240 miles to 9/6/09 71,167 miles)

Unfortunately, I've been too busy to pop the valve covers and see the condition of the head and valvetrain as far as sludge build up goes, but hopefully I'll get the chance this spring or summer...
