Default Might Be jumpin into a 6.0.

Long story short i might be buying a 05 2500 from work for 1200 bones Complete truck. Its got like 230,000 miles on it. Plan on usein the 6.0 and tranny out of it. We think the motor has a spun bearing and its only building like 5lbs of oil pressure and trannys slipping. So i plan on rebuild both. I dont kno much when it comes to internals an heads but i kno id like to keep it simple Bigger cam rebuild the motor and tranny.
Tranny will get a shift kit and bigger stall probly in the 3200 to 3600 range also vette servo.

Questions.

1. What cam would go good with that stall of a 32 to 3600? Id like a noticeable cam dont know much about them its a dd for now but not for long so id like to put a decent size cam in.

2. I kno im gona have to get machine work done but Should i get a whole new rotating assembly or just have a shop replace the bearings an give the block the machine work it needs with new pistons and rings? Depending on the damage done. Im not spraying so i dont need to be forged.

3 Is the block worth rebuilding with that high of miles?

Any other input u guys have im sure will help me out. U guys have been their this is my first rodeo with ls engines.

I've rebuilt lots of these engines, the block will almost never need machine work even at 200k miles. The only block that needed machine work was because of rust on the cylinder walls.

Oil pressure is usually lost at the cam, main, or rod bearings. When you have the cam bearings changed makes sure the shop has the camshaft that you will be running. Sometimes with new bearings aftermarket cams won't fit.

Crank will need to be machined for sure, if the bearing surfaces are too jacked up you may need to find a replacement.

Thanks man.

Im going to order the cam form TSP and then give it to the shop thats rebuilds the motor. So they can put it in and make sure the bearings they use fit the cam.

Im also thinking about replacing the lifters with the ls7 lifters too.

Don't use them old nasty lifters on your new cam, you will offend it and hurt its feelings!

You could have the shop mill the heads .03 since you need new pushrods anyways with the cam. bump compression up around 9.6. Could also throw .04 cometic gaskets on it to get around 9.8 compression

I would order patriot spring kit from Ws6 store. comes with new seals, titanium retainers, locks and shims. with .650 lift all for 295 ebay probably has some cheaper. Good idea to replace all those parts with the millage on the stock ones.

probably want a cam with 22X/22X .550+ lift your choice on LSA

Unless you plan on having the heads ported n polished is stay at 550 lift max, with stock heads the flow rate gain from 550 to 600 is very minimal. Your only causing more valvetrain stress without gain.

There is more involved than LSA, intake center line is also a big key to idle quality.
