Default Main Cap and Rod Bolts

I'm in the process of building a new powerplant for my truck and I had a few questions on fasteners.

I've done a search but couldn't find out weather stock Main Cap bolts and Stock Connecting Rod bolts are reuseable (torque to yeild)

And also trying to find the GM part numbers for both rod and main cap bolts.

I've been doing some searching online and I keep finding ARP's for both, but the mains are studs, and I'm wondering if it would be worth stepping up to studs for the mains and heads for the build.

I believe they are TTY. When I replaced my crank I reused my mains and replaced the cap bolts with ARP. If that helps any.

Edit: After a quick search on Tech the mains and rod bolts are not TTY.

Sweet, Thanks. Now just wondering if it would be worth going to studs for the heads and main caps. This was supposed to be a budget build, so we'll see how this goes.

When I rebuilt my engine I replaced everything that I could afford to with ARP. I have ARP head studs, ARP cap bolts, and I probably would have done ARP mains if anyone locally had them in stock.

Are you going boosted or big N/A numbers? If not their probably not necessary but added insurance, their also reusable so you can always swap them to your next build or resell them.

Oh also head studs come up for sale pretty often on tech and sometimes here too so you could probably snag a set for a pretty good price. Ive only seen mains a few times so you'll probably have to buy new.

i think they are tty but re-usable, i believe the torque spec is 15ft lbs on the main bolts and then 80 degrees, and its 15 on the studs also and then 51 degrees

I reused my main cap bolts on my 396 stroker I built, but I did have ARP fasteners for everything else

If I remember correctly, use of ARP rod bolts requires machining of the rod to bring it back into spec. The higher clamping force distorts the rod.

what about the side bolts that go from the outside of the block to the sides of the main caps? i believe those are the only ones not reuseable but where the hell can I get some replacements!?!

side bolts are reusable, just put a dab of RTV on them and torque to 18lbs.

Any more info on this? I've never heard of having to make them work.
