LY6 vs LQ4

decision made. i'll keep my opinion of those square port heads to myself
edit: i can't. heavy trucks need down low torque. congrats! you matched/beat the peak numbers of a LS2! line them up and get your *** drug by a weaker peak number engine becuase it has the ***** to leave a red light. square port heads have their place....on a 3,200 lb or less weight vehicle. if you want them on a truck, spray the dog **** out of it down low and they will do exactly what you want...most people on this forum arent willing to spray the amount of nitrous down low to make them do what they want.
but skeet!!!! 4.56 - 4.88 gears and 4,000+ converter in a single cab truck dial it in N/A. now he has the cubes to support the heads.
bit dirt track!!!! has the ***** to spray what is necessary to make it work down low.
with that said, i think the combo you put together will make the power that you want. there is no way you couldnt be happy. swapping from a stock 5.3 to a stock 5.7 dropped 6/10 off of my 1/4 times.

daaaang i just read and figured out how far off my assumptions were. LY6 with 243 heads basically equals an iron block LS2. just an itch less compression. guaranteed stronger rods and the notched piston helps with cam selection.
didnt see the saab part when scanning the thread. what do those things weigh in at?

LOL I have the same feeling toward the square ports. With more cubes than a 6.0 I think they are a better option, but on a 6.0 NA I think a ported 243 or aftermarket casting is the way to go all day long!!!
Again this is just a budget build, and I know it will be far better than the 5.3 its replacing right off idle, and still make a nice bit of power up top. The Saab weigh's in at about 5k. It's getting a FTI 3000 278mm converter to try and keep it as tame as possible (and as cheap as possible) while keeping me smiling. I still have a feeling this thing will be capable of low 13's in the right conditions which is pretty cool. Just a few clicks behind the TBSS with the same converter, and faster than a stock one. It would be nice to be able to run with an SRT8 jeep.

Yea they are!
Intake and exhaust they are good for a high 12. I know a TBSS is capable of that, but as you had mentioned this won't have the same low end grunt as a TBSS.
Either way... falling into a low 13 second daily driver sounds pretty sweet to me.

I got smoked by my buddy's jeep srt8 the other day, granted I have a bolt on 5.3 with 3.42s lol idk what makes those jeep so fast whether it be their awd system with awesome matching shift patterns or what. They weigh 4850lbs so they are not lighter than our single cab trucks, but the motors are not terribly impressive making only 420hp/tq. There are plenty of 370 forged motors making 420+ at the wheels.

They have very short gearing and a slightly looser stall converter from the factory. I'd say something along the lines of the TB stall we swap to sometimes. Pair that with great low end TQ ans theyre viscious off the line.
It would be like you having a 370 with an LS6 top end in a RCSB that has the SSS AWD, 4.56 gears, short 28" tires, and i6 converter.
