Default Lq9 carnage.......salvageable???

Hey guys. Just had the unfortunate event of tearing down an Lq9 I just purchased that was thought to have a spun rod bearing and in fact had a broken crank just behind the 2nd main cap The 2nd main got the worst of the damage showing some blueish discoloration along with the bearing main surface being worn. The 1st main and the last two mains also sustained some damage to the bearing surface but do not have any discoloration. I have provided pics below........what do you guys think?? Can this block be line bored and salvaged or no go?? The motor only had 56K on it supposedly and everything looks real clean otherwise so I hope I can still use it somehow. I plan to contact Texas-Speed & Performance Monday to see what they have to say. Thanks guys!

Does it look like bearing spun and got hot before crank broke? Do caps still fit tight?

As far as I can tell the caps still fit tight. There is a lip on each side of the bearing surface on the block on mains 1, 2, 4, and 5 that I assume were made due to the bearings spinning and starting to eat the block. Main 2 is the only one with discoloration though. I wanted to get some opinions before I drive 5 hours to Lubbock for them to tell me they can't salvage it.

BTW I will be coming to u for a cam kit if I can ever get a motor to put a cam in lol

The #2 looks pretty bad. Unfortunately the only way you're probably going to know for sure is to get it looked at. It's hard to tell from just a picture over the internet.

If its just bearing material stuck to the block, it might be ok. If it tore up the block, the only way to know for sure is to get it inspected.

Yeah that's kind of what I thought. I just need to figure out if its worth the five hour drive to find out if its salvageable. Does anyone know a reputable shop closer to the DFW area I could take it to?

Well talked to Texas Speed and Thompson Motorsports. They both said it would be aroung $1000 to align bore if the block was salvageable. So I guess its not worth it considering I can get a brand new 6.0 block from Texas Speed for $750......Looks like I need to find a block and crank somewhere.

Side note: Would the compression increase from 243's warrant the additional $400 over the 317's I already have? From what I have researched they have almost identical flow numbers so the only benefit I would be getting would be compression. Just not sure if thats a good use of $400 on a mild build or if I should just run the 317's and save the $400 for headers or e-fans or the like.
