I was thinking more like pulling the heads, getting them milled while Im doing this, dropping the oil pan, and swapping the pistons, but I guess it would need to be rebalanced wich means pulling the whole crank.
Hmmm.

So is this how you plan to paddle my ***?
If i were you and while you are at it. get the block bored and put some forged pistons in it. Its not THAT much more than if you were gonna buy the rods and the pistons brand new. Then you can spray....

Seriously Matt if you are going to go to that expense put some forged pistons in it and spray a 250 shot easily all day long. Alot of work for minimal gain IMO. The rotating assembly will definately have to balanced since the LQ9 rods a substantially heavier than the LQ4 rods. Not to mention you will need the cylinders walls honed for the new rings you would to seat right. Put some forged pistons in it and be done with it

The rotating assembly should be rebalanced though
