A few other companies out there offer some good deals on converters a notch above the 278mm, but costs a little more money. A 10.5" or a 10" higher stalling torque converter which is a smaller diameter converter vs the 278mm can be had for around $500-$600.
FTI, Midwest, Edge racing converters has some pretty good deals, but you need to contact them. FTI could probably custom build you a 10.5" 3400-3600 converter non billet for not much more than the 278mm.
