Default LQ4/4L60e ISSUE/QUESTION

I posted this question before but didnt get any answers from it. I just got my lq4 back from the machine shop with a .030 bore, stock crank, all arp studed... when i was comparing it to the first lq4 i had i noticed the new motor has the longer end on the crankshaft. Now without having to do a tranny swap how can i get the new lq4 to bolt up to the 4l60? is it even possible tto do so with that extra 3/8" on that crank?

Or how much cross bracing work is needed to put in a 4l80 or is it direct bolt up as the 4l60?

i think the 99-00 lq4 came with a longer crank, you might have to change the crank to a 02 or later lq4

I don'texactly understand your question. What year is your Lq4? Is the new crank shorter or longer than the one you brought in? If it's shorter, good! If it's longer it'll only work with a 4l80e

Same thing happened to me, the 99-00 blocks were only used with 4l80e's and had a longer crank. You will need a flat flexplate off of an 00 2500HD ($80 new less used) and you need to call Dave at Yank and have him build you a Pro Truck Converter ($925). It should be the same price as on of his existing PRO TRUCK models but it will need a 4l80e back half with a 4l60e snout, then it will work with your trans. If you havn't already got a good converter your in luck! If you do, "sorry dude, happens to the best of us". It's either that buy a new crank or, go to the 4l80e, modified cross memeber (Yank sells these if your not a fabricator), buy Nelson harness adapter ($160), and have 4l80e bin files loaded into your PCM ($150) and still buy a $925 converter.

As already stated. AFAIK you will either have to do an 80e or a custom torque converter for the 60e.

well sounds like the flat flex plate and the custom convert is the easiest solution. Im not looking to tear down the track all the time or even street race, i just want this POS back together so I can drive it! I have a 3k convert on the 60 now if anyone would wants one. Its a fuddle i believe, i'd have to check. Its been a few years since this truck has even been on pavement so i have kind of lost thoughts on what parts are all on it.

Hi not sure if you solved this already but heres another shop. not sure if the quality is the same but it is less expensive:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...ent-4l60e.html

LQ4 6.0 Liter 99 to 2000 w/ 4L60E Trans 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mci007 :

I have the configuration this post talks about, I installed a 1999 to 2000 LQ4 6.0 Liter into my 2004 chevy Tahoe, and yes i ran into the same problem because the crank is longer, However, after spending over 3200.00 at AAMCO, I found the fix, There is a shop in Huntington beach, CA. that fixed everything up for me, This shop builds its own torque converters and does custom racing transmissions as well, "California Performance Transmission"
http://www.cpttransmission.com/
The owners name is Art Carr and this guy knows ALL.

They built my new torque converter and installed it in a day, I asked Art to save the spec's because i ran acrossed your post before i found the fix, so i thought i would share this info with you incase you still needed it.

The new torque converter cost me about 375.00 + Tax, so if you still need this fix call Art and he will fix you up.

Oh and by the way, yes you can use the stock flywheel or flexplate, just tell Art which flexplate you have.

Art Carr torque converters are ok, but you get what you pay for.

I havent solved yet, still researching. This helps, thank you! i found on ebay today this felxplate, judging by the pics in the ls1tech forum looks to be the correct one. Can anyone add imput?

As for the torque converter, i will call this art carr and get some feedback from him. Im not to worried about the converter being "top quaility" im just looking to get me toy back on the road and drivable. Not looking to head down the 1/4 mile all the time...plus the truck is 6000lb! I need a lot more power to keep up and im not spending anymore $$$ on this than i have to. I just want it to look nice, sound nice and have a little attitude...

here is the link
