Default looking for cam advice...

Help?? like most of the rest of the gear heads, not enough cashflow to do what I want, but wanna do something to go faster!! want to change the cam in my truck. any suggestions preferably from someone who has done it allready, not heard about it.
I'm looking for slight choppy idle, better throttle response, low end improvements. this is a daily driver, and used to tow a car/trailer on occasion.
From what ive read about so far I'm looking in range of 206-220 duration, 520-550 lift? with a smaller seperation for torque? what about push rods? are stock ones sufficent? and springs? change anyway? will zo6 springs due? i have access to a set for next to nothing. I have a couple sets on heads laying around, should I do some port work? and swap heads and all at once, or leave it alone?
Truck: 04' 2500, ccsb, 2wd, 373 gears, k&n cold air, custom built ram-air, hypertech, proflo exh, 285/75/16 100,000 miles, 2nd trans 4l80e
**ANYONE HAVE PARTS IN TX? OR ADVICE TO GET BEST PRICE ON WHAT IM LOOKING FOR?** ALSO I HAVE A LOT OF OLD SCHOOL SBC AND BBC PARTS TO TRADE FOR WHAT I NEED, OR TO SELL.
Thanks for any advice, and/or heads up on parts.

Many of us have done cam swaps. 2500 has the LQ4 6.0L right? For more less loss of low end power I'd stay on the smaller side of duration, with a tight lsa like you have read. I don't see why you couldn't get a little more lift out of it but you should swap to hardened pushrods and a stiffer spring set.

No real need to port those 317s that are on there -- they flow plenty as is, IMO.

If you do decide to change heads, do the lifters while you're in there -- that's a heads off manuever with the gen IIIs.

I'd change springs if you're going to a big enough cam, but I'm ambivalent on the Z06'ers. Yep they're cheaper than others, but still stock tolerances, etc. I'd do some 918's or 921's depending on lift.

For the cam, I'd recommend a milder grind to keep the torque up there. To avoid tuning, stay in the 210/218 or smaller area. I'd recommend a 210/218 .55x/.55x on a 112-114 lsa from what you've said. Should get you great torque and pedal response and good power up top. Probably will want to shift in low 6000's and make power from 1500ish up.

I love my Comp. SI Torque Cam, 214/220 111.5 LSA. I either bought it at speedinc or thunder racing. It was under Trailblazer SS
