Ok so i'm not gonna make a huge move just yet, but I bought a cam from a member about 6 months ago without knowing what I was really getting myself into. Since then i've learned much more about LS style engines and so forth, but I went ahead and put my cam in anyways, even though it's a pretty small cam for a lq9.

First of all, what i'm looking to get out of this truck is high 12s on the motor. Shouldn't be reaching too high, i don't care if it runs 12.999, as long as it's a 12 haha.

I put a TR220 - 114 in it, though I meant to get it on a 112 (i love a choppy idle). I've got 918 springs as well as hardened pushrods.

I think my cam is a little small, I haven't been able to really step in it yet, mainly because my injectors are too small (flexfuels will be in tomorrow) and my tranny is flaring at 2 - 3 for some odd reason (yet to figure that one out, any ideas?)

I might end up leaving the cam in the truck, but I got a good deal on it, and I wouldn't be upset selling it for a TSP 228R, which seemed to catch my eye. I don't want to go with a bigger converter at all, it's already loose and stalls at 3600. I don't mind going bigger springs so much, and head work is always an option.

So give me you're thoughts?

The Tr220 is a proven tried and true cam for the 6.0

Make a run with it now and see how close you are to 12s

^Exactly, see where you're at now. IMO doing headwork with the 220 will give you better results than changing to a 228 and leaving the heads stock.

What gear and rear tire height are you running?

Running 12's (even 12.999) is a fine goal but is a lot harder than most people think, until they try and fail. Get out therte and run it, report back your slips. From there we can see what needs to improve.

The main problem I have with this cam, is the fact that it's on a 114. I've heard good things about the cam itself, but when I bought it we actually thought it was on a 112, we just didn't real carefully enough.

You won't be giving up anything all that noticeable with just 2 degrees of LSA, there's another thread right below yours that has graphs from TSP comparing some cams on different LSAs and the curves look almost identical.

I hear what you're saying though; if I was buying the cam I'd want it on a 112 also...

Well tomorrow i'm getting the tranny looked at by the guy that built it, and i'm putting flex fuel injectors in and having it retuned. We'll see how it turns out from there but i'd still like to have a cam with a little more chop to it. You can barely tell this truck has a cam at an idle, and definately can't if it's idled up any at all.

sounds like youre wanting to change the cam? if so then go with the 228 or even a 230s cam, since you mentioned you changed the springs are going to, also with the 220 i dont really think you need new injectors with a larger cam yes you will!!! but then again youre not wanting to change stalls and if yours is stalling 3600 so that gives you room to go bigger on the cam if you really wanted to

alright, got a set of flexfuel injectors installed, had it retuned, tranny problem is gonna have to wait a couple of weeks.

It runs pretty damn strong, i'd like to know what it pulls in a 1/4, dunno when i'm gonna have time to get it to the track tho.

These injectors at max rpms where at 80%, so i think i have a little bit of extra if i wanna go bigger cam, and i think my converter will hold a bigger cam.
