Default junkyard motors

How far are you guys taking down your junkyard motors? Is a 05 lq4 with a tick under 90000 miles worth pulling heads for inspection.

It's up to you I guess, if it's a minor lifter tick you could just try some trans fluid in the oil to clear it up.

Or just pull the heads and inspect the lifters and camshaft, replace them if you wish too.

Sorry I didn't mean a sound tick, I meant a motor under 90000 like 88321. Motor still on the stand.

I'd slap it in the car then and let her buck.

Thats if you arent planning to do any internal mods.

Bought mine with ~65k. Swapped the cam w/o dowel rods. Original lifters, timing chain, oil pump, etc. Still running strong after 10k. Gonna see how it likes ~10 psi of boost.

Depends on your plans. Will it be staying stock or gonna get a high power treatment? If you are going to abuse it then trunion upgrade, new lifters, Ls2 chain, hardened pushrods, valvesprings and some go fast goodies.

Did the same thing, but with a 150k mile engine. Gave it 25psi. Been boosted for over 20k miles, most of them at over 1000whp....roasted the 80e its in front of just today. The factory did it right...I really see no need to tear it down unless the miles are so low that the rings need to be gapped.
