Default high torque starter

Anyone running an aftermarket starter? After installing my 383 my starter was struggling to turn the motor over. I figured since it was 12 years old it just needed replacing. after installing the new starter i still have the same issue. the compression is at about 10.5:1. I wouldn't think this would be an issue but that starter looks so puny compared to the old school small block chevy starters.

Random question, how is the voltage to the starter?

It is possible there is a large drop when you crank it and it's not getting full power to the starter?

What gauge battery cables did you use? I did a battery relocation to the bed area on my rcsb back in the day and ran 00 without issue. Probably added 20lbs worth of copper weight to the truck though.

Like how thick? Moving your battery twelve feet from the starter will really drop voltage. It definitely is not your compression. My engine has the same CR as yours and is bigger, and it cranks like stock. You didn't add a shitload of cranking timing, did you?

the cables are 1 gauge. and its mounted right behind passenger cab. As far as cranking timing i am not sure. Nelson did a temporary tune, we are about to add an aeromotive fuel cell under the bed then we can dial in the tune for the additional fuel. Maybe its something in the tune he can check on

Is the ground cable less than 12" long...? That's just as important as the power cable. Maybe stick another ground somewhere.

My TMS motor is 10.75:1 CR.

The stock starter spins it over just fine everyday.
