High compression cammed 4.8
#1
Hey guys,
Its time to do alittle work to my RST silverado. Its a fun little truck but with the stockish 4.8 its liking the go fast fun. Expecially since my GTO has a 390LS2 stroker with a maxed out D1 procharger...
Im wondering how far I could go with trying to get some compression out of the 4.8. Im thinking of milling the heads .045" or so getting the heads to 54-55 cc along with a cometic .027 x 3.910 head gasket. That will put the CR to around 11-1!
Then for a cam I was thinking of a TSP 224/224 581 581 on a 112.
The only concern I have is PTV clearence. I have a 4.8 laying in the garage and I figured I could use it for mock up. I will stick the cam in the mock up 4.8 measure PTV clearence ect ect ect...
Whats the min. PTV clearence needed? .050"? .060"?
I figure if Im able to get 11-1 CR with the heathly 224 cam it should run pretty well.
What do you guys think?
Justin

I agree that 4.8's should have a turbo hanging off the side. But, a high compression 4.8 would perform well. Just make sure you pick the best cam possible. I think you could do better than a TSP 224...

Yeah the one I found is under $1500 and already has a TSP 228r cam kit in it! Should have a nice sound and power and still be a good Daily driver motor...

I might have to say goodbye to the little 4.8
