Hi guys, need some help deciding if i should put headers on my truck when i install my XFI xtreme truck cam,(comp cam 54-452-11) 212/216 .520/.524The headers i would be putting on are OBX 1-1/2" long tubes. Will it help at all or just a waste of money? i am also getting a new set of 317 heads with better springs to handle the cam and they are going to be ported a little. This is going on a LQ4, 6.0L stock motor with 202,000 miles on it.

Lts definitely are worth getting

 

On a 202k engine I'd at least swap the lifters out as well, check stock cam when removed to look for any pitting or chewed up lobes on the cam.

 

forgot to mention that i would be changing lifters at the same time as the new cam. this truck currently has a Blackbear tune but want some more power and then going to get a re-tune.

 

Yes definitely put the headers on, they aren't really needed with that cam but will make your engine breathe easier to let out the full potential of your setup. I think you're going to like the powerband with that cam, I have its baby brother (54-451-11) in my 5.3 and it made power right off idle all the way to 6,000 rpm.

 

A set of long tubes will definitely be an improvement
