Default HELP ME DECIDE: UPGRADE 370 to 408?

Well...now that the motor is all apart and I'm a 'little' smarter than when I did this in the spring, I'll thinking of stroking the thing out to a 408. Cost is obviously a mjor consideration, but I already have to change rings and cam. I am also toying with the idea of changing pistons, altho it really may not be needed even after re-honing, I'm hearing some bad things about Diamond pistons (bor 4.005/comp 1.162/vol -11). To stroke I gotta change crank, rods and maybe upgrade to 72# inj from 66#(pump too?)...so at least $2-2500 includ pistons but not fuel sys? Compression will prob go up from 9.5 to closer 10, but I can run lower boost for same power. Other than cost why not?

call Richard @ WCCH please and go with a Probe or Wiseco piston and Ackerly and Child's Rings spec'd by Rex.
They will tell you why and give you all the pertinent info

even if you stroke it please call them, at the very least for a good conversation about parts selection and reasons for selecting one product over another. I can't tell how many hours Richard and I spent on the phone discussing these things

with a 408 you will need new pistons. the wrist pin height is different hten a non stroked motor. also pistons for a stroker are slightly different for the number 8 cylinder so ti doesnt interfer with the reluctor wheel.

also chances are your blower wont be able to feed a 408 properly. i would stick with a 370 and call it a day

i guess for his application. i didnt even look at the type of truck. downlow for him would work, topend i doubt that MP122 would produce. even then he should still stick with the 370 it would be alot cheaper

As long as I don't add up what I've spent money isn't the real determinant...unless my wife finds out! I am leaning towards sticking with the 370 though...I've kinda grown attached to my hodge-podge of mis-matched parts!

that 408/122 would really pull that heavy AV out of the hole......I like the 370 better myself

The 408 with your 2.8 pulley and bigger crank pulley will likely be about 8-10psi. You'd be able to make more power with less boost and that would be nice. I'd go with compression of around 10:1 though and run a 3" blower pulley to try to keep some of your IAT's down. I'm not sure it'll be worth the cost for the power gain (other than torque), but down the road if you plan to go further you might feel it's worth it.
