Question Head gasket opionions?

Got a 5.7 LS1. I need to get some head gaskets and wanna know if I should go with some stock 5.7 ones or some Fel-Pro or other aftermarkets? My compression is probably a bit over 11 with my shaved 5.3 heads on the 5.7. I'm not really sure how to calculate it.

Their are compression calculators available on line. I have Cometic head gaskets but thats because I'll be supercharging my motor pretty soon.

I'd go with Cometic as well.

Cometics. They are kinda finnickey to TQ'ing. SCE makes a good gasket too.

There is no reason to use anything other than the stock MLS gaskets. They are cheap, proven, and tough. Do a search on LS1 tech and see how many people have had issues with the Cometics........

Cometic gaskets require a fresh mounting surface from what I recall. My engine builder said all the racers loved them (now this was 6 months ago).

I'll be using Cometics when I do my swap too. I bought them instead of stockers because they were available in thinner thicknesses.

I'd use the factory multi layered steel. They are one of the parts that were developed through racing and applied to factory engines. The Cometics and factory MLS are the same basic design and the GM's are a lot cheaper.
