Default first time mods question/help me

I have a 2012 silveraldo ltz daily driver at about 152k miles. recently its been burning oil and blowing smoke during afm on. I wana do these mods my self and not hire a shop cause i wana learn how to do it myself. my question is when buying a afm/dod delete kit (currently looking at tsp site) what type of cam should i look into buying? kinda want a lil bit of performance but i wana keep it to where i dont start breaking things cause i do wana buy donor engine to build on the side while i learn on this one

If this has VVT are you deleting that as well? This would open up your camshaft options if you don't have or are deleting VVT. We have DOD delete kits as well as VVT delete kits.

If you're deleting VVT we would recommend one of our stage 1 camshafts. There are three versions of the stage 1. The rv/tow, drop-in, and hi-lift. These will all provide a good variety of low-end torque with good to very strong mid-range and top-end power. With the mileage you have on this engine it would be a good idea to replace the springs. We have the LS6 NAL-12499224 that would work well with any of those stage 1 cams. Those springs will work with your stock retainers.

Thank you for providing your vin. You have the LC9 engine which has VVT. Keeping VVT will help fuel economy and driveability. Deleting VVT will help performance by keeping your right foot and engine response in sync.

If you wanted to keep VVT we would recommend the Comp Cams's high-lift CCA-189-400-13. This will provide good torque off idle and improve power throughout the powerband. This will require a phaser limiter for the cam phaser. You would need the CCA-5460 phaser limiter kit. You will not be able to use stock springs with this cam. Comp recommends the CCA-26918CS-KIT spring kit.

If you decided to delete VVT as well you would need a VVT delete kit. To use a 3 bolt cam such as one of our Summit Pro LS cams you would need CMB-09-0027. Or if you wanted to stick with a single bolt cam then you would need the CMB-09-0028.

Any of the previously mentioned Summit stage 1 truck cams or the above-mentioned Comp cam will work with stock gearing and converter. You have a good plan of action getting HP Tuners and having a tuner email you a tune.

No problem. Happy to hear you liked our suggestions and are getting a shopping cart together.

As long as the engine is stock and the heads have not been milled you could go with 7.400 in. pushrods. This is as long as the CCA-189-400-13 cam is being used. We have quite a few upgraded Chromoly options available. We would recommend the Summit Racing SUM-1457401, Brian Tooley Racing BTC-PR7400312-16, or Cam Motion CXM-PS174001204.

Since you have to swap out the cam anyway when you delete DOD, it's a great time for an upgrade. If you don't have any other mods, our Stage 1 cam does great (link). If you have more mods we do have larger cams as well but this is a great starting point. We also offer tuning to get it running correctly (delete DOD And/or VVT, set it up for the cam/other mods you might have). These trucks respond really well to modifications.

Sometimes if it ain't broke, don't fix it is the name of the game. It may live on forever or it may take a dump in 50k miles but a new pump could do the exact same.

If you do, just buy a new stock pump. No need for any of those aftermarket high volume pumps.

wouldnt it be more like preventing a worn out part from failing? i get what your saying and i live by that moto but oil pick up is one of the most essential parts. im not sure im not seeing oil pressure drop or anything either so idk
