Another question. To get a 408 I would need a 4.00" stroke, and the stock crank stroke is 3.622" right. So how would I get a 408?

 

I'm not sure what you're asking. Unless you mean where can you buy a stroker crankshaft, which in that case my previous post can still help you. Call one of the vendors.

 

Had threads mixed up. Thought we talked about a 408 but it was not in this thread so it must have been another. Sorry for the mix up. Here are the parts I have what do you think of these?

Compstar H-beam 6.25 rods
Diamond flat top 4.030 pistons

Also dropping the block off next week to have it sonic tested and bored on out to 4.030 if able.

Such as Compstar H-beam 6.125 rods? 6.25" seems a little high for a stock crank.

Looks alright to me. Get confirmation from your machine shop that you can bore .030" over, then order the pistons as soon as possible. Have the machinist machine the bores after he has each piston in hand, and bore each specific cylinder for a specific piston. This way, your tolerances are tighter and tailored to the imperfections in the piston. Some bores may be .028", some may be .032", and hopefully most of them will fall right in at .030". Have your machinist take a black sharpie pen and write on the piston so you know which piston goes with which bore. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, have your machinist do the same with your rings by filing each to fit a specific piston.

When it comes time to assemble the motor, all you have to do is match piston 1 up with cylinder 1, piston 2 with cylinder 2, and so on.

 

Ok will do that.I read where it is good to have the shop balance the whole rotating assembly it that right. ie certain piston with certain rod in a certain bore.

 

Most definitely. Ask your machine shop to do this.

 

Looks like my engine build will be done sooner than I thought. Believe I broke a valve sring today and dropped a valve. Taking the covers off Saturday to see what is going on.
