Default DOH!!!!!!!!I am an Idiot

I have been having a bitch of a time getting my timing squared away on my new 383. I have had a vibration that would not go away. I thought I had a miss. I changed plugs, checked gaps, put on new wires changed springs in the distributor. I was going out of my mind. Today I checked to make sure that my timing indicator was on at TDC and it was. Finally I was at my whits end. I called the speed shop (where I bought most of the parts) and I asked " Hey guys would you look up what balancer I bought and tell me if its for a 350 or a 400 SBC. They replied a 350. I do a little math in my head and then slap my forehead really hard and yell DOH!!!!!!!! A stroker has a 400 crank not a 350. The 350 is balanced and the 400 is not. I will be swapping the correct dampener in on friday. Damn I am an idiot. I will bet this will solve the vibration and the timing issue.

That's some good **** right there. So many people did that **** 15-20 years ago when the 383's became so popular. Well, at least you had the ***** to admit it
People used to take 400 sb's, rob the crank and junk the block. Now the blocks are like gold. I have 2 on standby.

the dampener is a different size so my timing numbers were off. That was the cause of the timing issues ( i hope) the vac problems were a leak around the carb. I had to stack two gaskets to get that fixed. I also found a nick in one of the plug wires (the hard way hurt like hell). I ordered more wires today.

You will have to get a new timing tab as well if you haven't thought of that already.
