Looking to get my 706 heads installed on my 5.3 LS engine and wanna clean them up good before installing. I've heard Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner? Any other tips or clening methods that could be chimed in?

 

Oven cleaner, hot pressure wash, soak them in a tub of purple power.

Wiz wheel brushes on drills work great at getting crap off too.

 

Put them in the dishwasher while your wife is at work

 

Purple power will corrode aluminum

No...no it's not...lol. "WHY DOES THE DISHWASHER SMELL LIKE OIL?!?!?" I have no idea, babe....no idea....


Oven cleaner, though. Holy crap. works great. Take it to a self serve car wash with oven cleaner. Let them soak in the parking lot and then bring 'em into the stall to pressure wash off.

I used Greased Lightning Degreaser, brushes and got soaked blasting with my pressure washer. I did this for all my greasy parts for the LQ9 rebuild. If you have hydrophobia this method may not be for you

 

Man it's amazing how clean you got those with a little elbow grease

 

When I purchased my house, they left a practically new white dishwasher in the house. I bought all new stainless steel appliances, so instead of chucking the old dishwasher, I modified the lower tray and already had hot/cold water in my garage. So that’s where my poor mans “hot tank parts washer” resides. Works great for me
