Chevy 5.3 cam swap- things to replace
#15
If you're really "not familiar with engines" as you say you better spend a lot of time on this site and on LS1Tech reading up on the things NOT TO DO during a cam swap. You can get yourself into a LOT OF TROUBLE if you don't know what you're doing even though this is one of the easiest cam swaps known to man considering you don't have to remove either the heads or intake to do it. Try to find another cam in block that can make that statement. A few special tools makes this job a whole lot easier.

Vinci/Crane spring tool does two at a time-$100
Crank pulley pusher-$40
Rocker bolt have locktite on the heads. The spec is 22ft/lb, but it take a lot more force to crack the locktite the first time they're removed. Use an 8mm/6point 3/8" drive socket on a breaker bar to remove them. Give them a good hard snap to crack the locktite. Once they break loose you can spin them out with your fingers.
