Default Cam question

I have an 03 GMC RCSB 5.3 has all the bolt on goodies circle D 3-3200 390’s etc. I put the TSP 220R in it and I’m just not satisfied. The powerband is super short. How much camshaft can I get away with? How much power did I leave on the table? This is my first LS truck. Thanks for any advice!

the guys will want to know:

Head specifications, if OE, which number heads
compression ratio
what size long tubes and exhaust
what intake and TB

they may want more, but that will get them started

Can you describe what you mean by short? Does it come on too late? Does it sign off too early? What RPM are you shifting at? What range would you consider it "strong"?

It shifts at 6300. Feels like it starts to come on hard between 5-6k. It really feels like it wants to spin more rpm’s although I know the cam is done.

If it wants to spin more RPM, dont be shy. That cam isnt done by 6300 in a 5.3 with 243 heads. Let it go another couple hundred RPM and it will feel a lot faster as you also gain converter efficiency.

Do you have an 87mm intake?

What’s the spark curve look like?

Depending on how that is setup, that can contribute to the lazy feel or lackluster feels up top.

I’m having the truck retuned. I’m thinking that I might have put it in the wrong hands.
