Default cam install price

yesterday i called the nearest ls specialty engine shop here in new england to get a qoute on a cam install. they said itd be 1400 dollars to do my cam and another 950 if i wanted my lifters done because they'd have to take my heads off. i didnt even mention a dyno tune. 2350 to do a cam and lifter seems a tad extreme or is it not?!?!?!?

Wow. That's a bit too much. Lol. Most shops will quote about 650-800 for a cam install. If you have no tools at all, go but a craftsman 200+ piece kit for 300 and take a weekend to do the swap and now you will have the tools for future mods.

X2! For that price you could even buy a whole engine with all those mods done for prolly less! If your not afraid to get greasy then save yourself a couple thousand dollars... Gm was even nice enough to make a cam swap easy in LS motors! A few books written with that material not too mention the beloved google search function will have a beginner turning a wrench in no time and you would be all the wiser!

I don't know of any ls performance shops in Maine, NH or VT. I have to do all my own work, but I enjoy it anyways. Yeah, that price is horrible, but they have little to no competition.

It's slowhawk in MA they just turbo'd my buddies truck for less than 5k and they want half to do a am kit I already have and ls7 lifters I already have. I thought that was ridiculous but now I know I'll just do it myself and have Nelson write a new tune for me.

Yea do it yourself. But be aware, once you start wrenching on stuff, you might never be able to stop! It turns into a sick addiction. haha

^This is true

With us, normal labor pricing for an install like this would be $1400 for cam and lifters.
