Default cam and head combo.

I have a 01 chevy z71with a 5.3 and im planning to put a tsp 228 cam in it with 243 heads. I have shorty headers and new exhaust , I've read that I would need a good stall and possibly 4:11s. It will be daily driven. Is there any more info I need to know on what else I might need to get or do? Thanks in advance!

You don't need a good stall and 4.11's but in the end that could be your best setup.

You'll want to determine what will be best for that cam and what gears are going to be right for how you want to use this vehicle.

A 3000 stall should be a decent one to look at. As for the gears, you said this will be a daily driver and do you really need 4.11's for a daily??

Something like 3.73's or 3.90's would better suite a daily driver. You will still have some gear for having fun but won't have to worry about perhaps using more fuel with a gear ratio of 4.11 or higher. Cruise rpms will be alot higher with 4.11's thats for sure.

Lots of factors at work here. Why the tsp228? I'm not a fan of that cam to begin with. However, what size tires do you have? What gears are in it now? Stock heads?
Also your exhaust setup is begging for longtubes especially with a cam.

I have 35s with 20s everything on my 5.3 is stock except headers and a cai. Im pretty sure I have 3.73s currently and the reason for a tsp 228 is a friend of mine has one in a single cab and it showed improvement over the 224.

Yea it'll show improvement but your have big wheels big tires and you need big tq numbers not hp numbers to get it rolling.

You should give the 224/228 cam a try. It will work awesome. Considering those big tires you will be best off with either 4.30s or 4.56s. A 3000 stall will make a big cam much more fun.
