cam change with 4wd???
Did any of you 4wd guys change your timing chain and oil pump durring the cam swap. After looking on the ls1 tech guide, dont think i'll be able to drop the pan enough to get the pump and pickup tube out. Should I just leave the old chain in there?? got about 86,000 on the clock.

I'm planning on doing mine soon. A little worried about that myself. Guess I'll find out how hard it is. I have a new LS2 t-chain and a ported oil pump ready to go in. I have ~107K on my truck so I definitely want to get the chain replaced while I'm in there.

i still dont understand why everyone wants to change the timing chain all the time?? to me it is not necessary!!! just slap the cam in there and go with it... Im still my stock chain and pump, and on my z71 I did the cam swap at a little over 100k and no problems at all, my pump holds at 57-60# with over 100kmiles!

I agree, the stock oil pump is just fine as is the stock timing chain. Unless it's real sloppy when you pull it apart, it's just fine. Just because they make an upgrade doesn't mean you need it, especially at the rpm you'll be running. It's not like you're going to be spinning over 7000rpm.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking, Normaly you can go along time without changing the chain. Unless its all stretched out im leaving it in there, Im sure its fine though.

if I'm not mistaken the maintenance records say your supposed to have it changed at 100K but you can check it for any slack or just go ahead and get it out of the way.
if your doing the install and have access to a lift I'd go ahead and do it, but if your doing it at home in your garage it would be a good bit more difficult
IMO.
I went ahead and did mine just to get it out of the way. because I was almost to 100K. just so i didn't have to worry about tearing it all back down again just for that.
I also left the stock oil pump in, I don't think there is much need in upgrading it unless your gonna spin a lot of RPMS or your motor is really gunked up.
