Default cam bearing fell out. what now

installing a cam in a 6.0 (it is on a stand with heads and oil pan off) the #2 cam bearing fell out when putting the new cam in. Im hearing that the whole bottom end has to come apart for a machine shop to put new cam bearings in. Is this true? If not can i put new bearings in my self? how hard is it? Whats a normal price for a shop to install them?

If a cam bearing just fell out, there's a good chance that the block is no good. Have a machine shop check it out for you.

well when we were pulling the old cam out it was really hard to come out but i kept my kool n just kept playing with it till it came out. It deff gave me hell coming out though ive never had a problem gettin one out before. Well when we were putting the new one in it was very abnormally tight going in like the old one was coming out. I never pushed really hard or anything and the #2 bearing came out.

my main concern is does the bottom end really have to come apart for a machine shop to put new cam bearings in?

I don't see how you could do it without the bottom end apart. You need to line up the new bearing properly, and you just cant see looking through the top of the engine. If I were doing a cam bearing I would just do them all anyways. Were you ever having oil pressure problems?

If it has a cam bearing problem, then it probably had an engine oiling problem that created it. You would be foolish not to do a complete teardown at this point. Consider it "good luck" that you found this before you reassembled everything, and your investment blew up shortly afterwards.
