Budget 5.3L for Boost
Have this idea rattling around in my head... I currently am running my stock LM7 with ~115k miles and am thinking it may not last long with my ~600rwhp goal. Apparently the rods are pretty weak on these motors and will be the first thing to go. So I'm thinking of building up another 5.3L as a spare.
Block: My thought is to use a used 5.3L iron block, or would an aluminum 5.3L block be able to handle the power? Is a Gen IV iron block better than a Gen III? Crank: Stock should suffice. Rods: No idea. Pistons: No idea. Rings: New, gapped for boost? Misc: ARP rod bolts. New main and rod bearings. Maybe ARP main studs? What sponsors can build this for me? I can't find any that offer a simple 5.3L online, but perhaps I just need to ask them. |
Get a 2005+ 5.3. Will do 600 easy.

That would be the cheapest option, but if I'm going to replace the motor then I might as well spend a little more and beefen it up. 600rwhp is the goal, but once I reach it then it's onwards and upwards :eyes: |

Spend as much as you like, its your money. But the late model 5.3 will probably last forever at 600 with a proper tune.

do head studs, cam, rod bolts and springs

600 RWHP will be a cake! Get a specd cam for the turbo you will be using, springs, better rods, head studs, and 60lb injectors.

How much boost in general will it take to hit 600 rwhp on a 5.3 in a truck?
