I haven't picked up the motor yet but I'm searching for a gen 3 5.3. I plan on leaving the bottom end stock and just swapping in a cam kit and send it. It is a retired jet boat with a cracked 454 I want the reliability of efi and the power from a ls. I wanted y'alls opinion on a cam since this goes from crank to impeller no transmission. Also the more chop the better as its going to run flipped headers out the back.

Also from what I've figured out all I would need is below

5.3 motor
Wire harness
Stock Ecm
Inline fuel pump (how many gph I have no idea)

Let me know y'alls thoughts I just want the damn boat on the water and to have some fun with it!!

 

Call Cam Motion and tell them what your trying to do. The air boat cam specs are quite weird and a "Car" or "Truck" cam doesn't work the best.

 

You are correct since it is a boat the high rpm needs to met and it’s gonna be constant. Though I’m scared shitless with going too fast on water I believe it will be once or two a year full WOT. I will call them and see what they say thanks!

 

Install a supercharger and a larger jet pump.

 

That would satisfy your fun requirement.

 

I would love to but I don’t go on the lake all that much for a supercharger. This is a retired jet boat so I think the jet drive should suffice. Plus I am working to finish my truck up. I need injectors a tune and I think that’s it. It’s been enough of a PITA to get this truck rolling I’m working towards 800hp

 

From what I remember they use a softer ramp on the lobes to control valvetrain for sustained high rpms and a higher LSA

Its possible. Id never pick a cam cause how it sounds at idle.
I tell Kip at cam motion what the setup is and how it will be used then they grind it and ship to me.
