Default Better for the tow rig....Rate these

I am thinking more mid range power for towing (pulling the car trailer/camper).

supporting goods -either way (p.p.t.b., cai, l.t. headers and o.r.Y & tuned)

Option 1- lq4 with a stock ls2 cam a mild ported 5.3 head & stock intake
OR
Option 2- lq4 with custom 220/223 cam ,stage II milled 243's, and tbss intake

Premium fuel already factored in for tune and compression.

The truck does well, now, but it has 4.10's and 35'' tires...stock stall.

Please, help.

The milled 243s will be your best bet.. and id go with just a smaller cam.. 215ish on a 110-112 lsa, keep most of your power right there around 3000rpms.
but those big heavy 35s aint doin you much good either.

Also, id skip the TBSS intake, theres not much to be had there. unless you went with some type 90mm TB or so.

im running the isky 215/215 .566/.566 114 turbo cam and it worked great for towing when in was N/A with the LQ4.. it would still pull down to round 1600-1700 rpm range.

the ported 5.3 head will raise the CR some but not flow all that great.. a 243 will flow the same as the stock 317s but bump the compression up some, depends on how far you plan on milling them.

The 243's are fully ported flowed @300cfm with stock valves and are @60cc's now. I had these on my 383 awhile back... Nice set

For towing go LQ4 with 243s, but keep the cam duration under 220. 212/218 is a proven DD/tow cam. The TBSS intake will do well matched with a 87/90mm tb. I would go with either 4.56s or reduce your tire size.

I'm going to do the 243's ...
Is the stock intake better for the low-end torque or will the tbss be better?

For the hell of it ... I put the old dog on the dyno yesterday...
241k- stock with cats, a base tune, borla 2.5'' dual mufflers dumped,4.10's and a 35''x12.5tire...
245rwhp & 280rwtq...pretty sad.

Stopped the pull at 5200, why push it... May just pull it and go thru it all...lol
