Default basic build

I have a used short block to go in my Z. It has 125 k on it so I thought some new bearing and piston rings might be in order. This is a budget build or I would have bought a forged shortblock. I would like some suggestions on parts. Ie: arp rod bolts, durabond cam bearings, rings???, and such. As for the future of this car, It will see a cam , 3200 stall , LTs, and maybe a 100 shot one day. I plan on keeping the pistons to keep the cost down. Rings will be replaced, but what kind?
Thanks in advance

i've used regular clevite bearings and hastings rings in two builds now without a problem. i'll look for the guys info where i bought them, he had everything in stock, mains, rods, cam, rings, and it was a great price. i'll shoot you a pm tomorrow if i can find it.

Put it in and run it. My 180K 5.3 looked brand new when I pulled it and had perfect compression. These new motors can take alot of miles and abuse. I would run it and hole away a bit of money for when you blow it later on for some forged goodies. Thats just me.

Checking the bore will ultimately tell you which way you'll be headed. Chase every threaded hole in the block before you send it out. Rod bolts, Federal Mogul main bearings, Clevite H Series rods, Do not change the cam bearings unless your machinest says they are out of spec. If they are then make sure the cam bore is line honed. For rings... I like JE file fit. GM LS2 timing chain kit... unless you can find a double roller cheaper. If using a double roller check clearance of chain behind the crank sprocket. On a budget there is nothing wrong with reusing gaskets like covers, valley, and pan... assuming they are still pliable... no rips or any other degredation. Plan on changing front and rear seals.
