Yes! Very small cam. I know most of you guys are thinking, why go though all the effort and expense to install a cam like I am speaking of. The OEM LM7 cam is freakin TINY. There has to be room for improvement to the tune of 20-25 feet pound torque and 30-35 HP over the stock cam and still maintain smooth idle and excellent off idle responsiveness. BTW, I am 54 years old, what I can tolerate at this age and what I could in my teens and 20's have changed, lol

I run a Comp 206/212 cam in my gen III 5.3. Great torque and +2 mpg. It idles and sounds completely stock now that I've dialed the tune in. It doesn't lope anymore. Here's what it sounded like when it was first put in and not completely tuned:

Interesting, so the tuner was able to smooth the idle. What is your idle RPM now?

I'm 62 years old and the lovely chop chop chop of my recent cam (11 degree overlap) swap makes me feel 20 again... love it!

You add a few degrees of timing in the spark tables where the engine idles. Also drop the numbers in the Adaptive Idle Spark Controls "overspeed & underspeed" tables will tame down the rowdiness of a large camshaft.

I have the Comp Cams 54-452-11, which is a 212/216 cam with .520/.524 lift on a 115 LSA in an otherwise stock LQ4 with a tune. Mid range it has noticeably more torque than stock from 2000rpm up. With the cam, I'm running up against the limit of the stock injectors and see 94% duty cycle at 5200 rpm. Lost about half a mile per gallon vs the stock cam.

Depending on whos calculator you use. It's -37.7 to -38 of overlap on a factory LM7 cam

191°/190° 0.457 in./0.466 in. 114 LSA

I'm running a Comp 54-451 (208/212. .554/.558) with cut and ported 862 heads. Calculated CR is 10.8:1 with the shaved (.030) heads and '08 5.3 flat top pistons. With headers and a tune it has decent off idle and mid range. Pulls my 4000lb travel trailer easily. I'm using a TB I-6 converter so that's probably the downfall with my fuel economy. ~12mpg in the city, ~15 on the highway around 80mph. This is on a 93 tune. I plan on installing a 6.0 with 862 heads and an Erson 1838 cam (Sloppy Stage 1 or Trick Flow stage 1). The truck idles smooth, barely noticeable lope.

It's not the convertor. I am around the same exact fuel mileage with the Comp 54-412-11 A.K.A. XR265HR (212/218 .522/.529 114LSA) Milled .025 and CNC Ported 706 heads with 2.00in./1.57ex. valves Around 9.8:1 compression. But I still have the factory convertor.
