in a sense, but still the same. i got hit with the fun question of "i want to do a heads/cam setup on my 04 avalanche" the fun twist of this joy is, wants to keep the stock stall. this limits my fun and throws my happy lets make 400whp out the window.
the cams im looking at from comp are, 212/218 522/529 on a 114, and a 216/220 525/532 on a 114. nothing to extreme in terms of duration and lift. might be on the edge of the stock converter and may have just a touch of minor surge off idle. mild cam choice, not a problem. the problem im running into is the flooded market of heads to match the cam. his main concern is torque, hence the smaller cam choices. i can see it gaining from a raised comp ratio due to a smaller cc chamber.
or say screw it and put a blower on it and call it a day.

This as far as needs of a stall and all. I can put it this way. I drove my truck with the stock converter on a basically stock tune( hypertech) for a long time with a 224 cam on a 112 lsa. It wasn't ungodly to drive by any means at least in my book. Yes occasions I had to 2 foot it but also was possibly due to not being tuned. With that being said yes a converter will almost all ways make a cam shine. But in alot of cases with the correct tuning you can get away with a decent cam on a stock converter. Naturally slapping FI is the easiest way to go, but budget isn't always there to do that all at one time..

Do the xr265hr Z06 springs and tune , it will run damn good and be a great DD .
Had this stick in my 04 5.3 Ecsb , both N/a and turbocharged , what a great cam .
Then go from there if its not enough power / fun for ya or whoever
This was back in about 05' or so , and what got me wanting that cam was riding in an 02 2500 HD , with an LQ4 and same cam, that truck ran soooo good .
